Black Annie
Black Annie was a passion project turned independent study the fall of my senior year. My Aunt Darlene has always dreamed of opening up her own restaurant in New Orleans, but the brand of it all is the one thing holding her back. Once I learned about independent studies and the freedom embedded with those, I knew I wanted to pitch the idea of creating this brand to my professor and ask if I could do this as a semester-long project.
About the Place
Black Annie is a contemporary bar and cigar lounge. Located in the French Quarter of New Orleans and established during the COVID-19 pandemic, Black Annie is a true testament to what the love and honor of a community can do to keep something afloat. Black Annie’s mission is to connect local new orleanians through great conversation, food, drinks, and music. They have hand-crafted every item on our menu to make their guests won’t make anything but a smile after tasting, eating, or hearing some of our amazing house musicians.
About the Design
When creating the identity for Black Annie, I worked very closely with my aunt to make sure we were on the same page about all things Black Annie. The colors are very dark and moody, yet inviting. This would be a fine dining experience with sweet music playing around you as your enjoying your entree and appetizer. The primary typeface for this brand is very bold and eccentric. It stands out yet being inviting enough to welcome you in with the sounds of jazz roaming through the streets.
